Sony confirms it will shutter all 14 branded retail stores within two months
Sony Corp. said it is closing all 14 of its Sony Stores operating in Canada over the next two months as it continues to restructure its ailing brand. The company made the announcement the same day Target said it would shutter its Canadian retail operations.
Sony said it would redirect consumer traffic toward its network of authorized retailers and online.
“Our network of Sony authorized retailers offer a full range of Sony products and will be supported by our in-store merchandisers and product trainers on an ongoing basis in order to ensure that our past customers have continued access to knowledgeable sales consultants who can support their ongoing Sony electronics needs,” Sony said in a statement.
It wasn’t immediately clear how the closures would affect Sony’s 11 branded U.S. stores operating in California, Florida, New York and Texas.
The Japanese consumer electronics icon continues to deal with slumping business units, including televisions, PCs and cellular phones, which will contribute to a projected $1.9 billion fiscal-year loss (ended March 31).
