'Inside Out,' 'Star Wars' Top-Selling Titles at Amazon During Holidays

E-commerce giant added three million Prime members globally in third week of December
Amazon Dec. 28 that more than three million people worldwide joined its Prime program during the third week of December. The $99 membership program, which includes Prime Instant Video, saw members double their streaming video hours consumed compared to the same period last year.
The e-commerce giant doesn’t disclose Prime membership totals, maintaining subscriber numbers range in the “tens of millions.” Prime Instant Video is available in the United States, United Kingdom and Germany.
Top-streamed movies included Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1, Ex Machina, starring Oscar Isaac and Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), and Dark Places with Charlize Theron.
Amazon Original Series “The Man in the High Castle,” “Transparent” (Season 2) and “Shaun the Sheep — The Farmer’s Llamas” were the top-streamed TV series.
Top-selling movies at Amazon included Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment’s Inside Out (Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack + Digital Copy); Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s Minions (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD); and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s Star Wars Trilogy Episodes IV-VI (Blu-ray + DVD).
Top digital titles included: Inside Out, and Universal’s Trainwreck and Jurassic World.
“This was another great holiday season to be a Prime member,” Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, said in a statement.
