Disney Discs Available Again for Preorder on Amazon

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment’s Maleficent, Guardians of the Galaxy, Million Dollar Arm, The Hundred-Foot Journey and Planes: Fire and Rescue have all returned to preorder status on Amazon following the e-commerce behemoth’s decision to halt advance orders of the studio’s new releases while it hammered out a new distribution agreement.
While no formal announcement of a deal has been made public, apparently the two sides are close enough to a resolution that Amazon reinstituted select preorders, according to The Wall Street Journal, which cited a source familiar with the situation. The timeline is similar to a distribution impasse between Amazon and Warner Bros. that was resolved in June.
As first reported by Home Media Magazine in August, the preorder option for almost every title from Disney had been removed on Amazon, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Million Dollar Arm (which streets Oct. 7) and Maleficent (Nov. 4). As with Warner, Amazon Instant Video early electronic sellthrough of new-release Disney titles was unaffected.
