Projections: 'Maleficent' Ready for Magical Debut
10 Nov, 2014 By: John Latchem
After several weeks without a blockbuster new home video release, Disney's Maleficent is set to break the spell with a massive disc debut in the week ending Nov. 9. The film, a reimagining of Sleeping Beauty, grossed $241.2 million at the domestic box office and its disc sold out quickly at some locations.
Another Disney title, Planes: Fire & Rescue should also fare well on the sales charts with its strong family appeal.
The third big title debuting during the week is Paramount's Hercules, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as the mythological Greek god. The film would be a strong contender for No. 1 most weeks if it weren't competing against Disney movies.
On the rental chart, Warner's Edge of Tomorrow and Universal's A Million Ways to Die in the West are coming off their 28-day holdback from Redbox and should move into a few of the top spots. Hercules is likely to debut as the No. 2 rental.
