Projections: 'Hunger Games' Ready to Play
20 Aug, 2012 By: John Latchem
A short release window in the reporting period shouldn't stop Lionsgate's mega-hit The Hunger Games from debuting atop the disc sales charts the week ending Aug. 19. On the heels of Universal's The Lorax, which is expected to drop to No. 2 in its second week, a strong performance for Hunger Games would be good news for a home entertainment industry that struggled through July.
Dexter: The Sixth Season, from Paramount and Showtime, should also perform well on the sales charts.
Hunger Games will also debut high on the rental chart, possibly in the top spot due to a lack of any significant new releases. Fox's The Three Stooges is coming off its kiosk embargo and is expected to move into one of the top spots.
