Projections: 'Hitman's Bodyguard' Competes With Black Friday Rush
27 Nov, 2017 By: John Latchem
A pair of new releases from Lionsgate — The Hitman's Bodyguard and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets — will try to overcome the hectic rush of post-Thanksgiving sales to top the home video charts the week ending Nov. 25.
The comedy Hitman's Bodyguard earned $75.5 million at the domestic box office, while the sci-fi adventure Valerian underwhelmed with $40.5 million.
Under ordinary circumstances the two would have no trouble topping the charts, and will definitely be the top sellers among the newcomers. Black Friday typically helps push popular titles that are weeks or months old back into the top spot, such as Wonder Woman, Spider-Man: Homecoming or Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, or family films such as The Boss Baby or Beauty and the Beast.
On the other hand, on the rental chart for the week ending Nov. 26, Hitman's Bodyguard and Valerian should have no trouble debuting at No. 1.
