Projections: 'Equalizer' Seeking Justice on Charts
5 Jan, 2015 By: John Latchem
After a lull in major new releases during the holidays, Sony Pictures' The Equalizer should emerge as the top selling and rental title to close the book on 2014.
The Equalizer, starring Denzel Washington in an adaptation of the 1980s TV show, grossed just over $100 million at the domestic box office, which should give it enough clout to carry it over strong holderovers such as Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
The rental chart will see the rise of Fox's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which arrived at Redbox after the standard 28-day holdback imposed by the studio. Unlike other recent Fox releases, the Apes sequel is available at Redbox on Blu-ray as well.
