Netflix Dominates Aussie SVOD Market

As expected, Netflix commands a big lead in the Australian over-the-top subscription video market, with nearly four times the market share of rivals Stan and Foxtel Now through the third quarter, according to new from Ampere Analysis.
Netflix has about three times the content of rival SVOD services down under, according to Ampere. The firm contends Netflix has more than 4,500 titles available, compared with 3,000 for Foxtel and 2,000 for Stan. Newcomer Amazon Prime Video has about 3,000 titles.
London-based Ampere found that 51% of Australian broadband users subscribe to one or more SVOD services, compared with 35% who subscribe to pay-TV.
In the United States, 72% of broadband users subscribe to at least one SVOD service — tops globally, followed by Denmark (70%), Sweden (66%) and the United Kingdom (58%). By comparison, just 31% of French broadband users also subscribe to one or more SVOD services.
The data differs sharply from Parks Associates, which claims about half of all broadband households in the United States subscribe to both pay-TV and at least one subscription video-on-demand service.
