OEM Acquires German Disc Maker CDA

22 Aug, 2014 By: Erik Gruenwedel

OEM, a Charlotte, N.C.-based disc manufacturer, has acquired German counterpart CDA, GmbH. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

CDA, based in Suhl, Germany, is one of the largest independent manufacturers of optical storage media in Europe and has in recent years evolved its business into replication of chip-based storage devices in the automotive sector.

OEM, which is dealing with a shrinking packaged-media ecosystem, said the transaction would help it venture into new markets, including Flash Media in automotive, pharmaceutical and technology.

At the same time, OEM — in a statement — reiterated ongoing support for its core disc replication business, which will now expand into Europe.

CDA CEO Frank Hartwig and managing director Nicolaus Hettler will head OEM’s European operations in Suhl.
