DVD, Blu-ray Revenues Down for Cinram

Significant drops in both DVD and Blu-ray Disc revenue for Cinram led to a $22.8 million loss for the first quarter of 2011, the replicator reported May 11.
Primarily due to the loss of replication duties for Warner Home Video, which moved to Technicolor, Cinram saw its pre-recorded media revenue drop from $269.3 million in the first quarter of 2010 to $149.8 million. Overall revenue for the first quarter of 2011 was $176.7 million, compared with $298.6 million in the first quarter of 2010.
“The lower revenues and earnings compared to 2010 were not surprising given the departure of Warner Home Video in July 2010 and the industry-wide decline in volume in the first quarter,” said Cinram CEO Steve Brown.
Blu-ray, DVD and CD replication and distribution revenue was down 44% for the quarter ($149.8 million compared with $269.3 million in 2010). The company replicated 120.3 million DVDs during the first quarter of 2011, compared with 242.3 million in 2010.
Blu-ray replication revenue for the quarter was $7.2 million, down from $8.9 million in the first quarter of 2010.
