Redbox May 22 announced a new distribution deal with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment that gives the kiosk vendor access to new releases seven days after their retail street date. Previously, Warner titles were available to Redbox 28 days after street date.
Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
“With thousands of new kiosk installations planned this year and next, Redbox remains focused on delivering the freshest content, at the best value, nationwide,” Galen Smith, CEO of Redbox, said in a statement.
Privately held Redbox recently announced national expansion plans that will add 1,500 kiosks this year, with more planned for 2018. By the end of the year, Redbox will have more than 41,500 kiosks nationwide, a total larger than the number of Starbucks and McDonald’s locations in the U.S. combined, according to the vendor.
