Redbox Rents 3 Billionth Disc
30 Jul, 2013 By: Chris Tribbey
Redbox rented its 3 billionth disc this month, just 16 months after renting its 2 billionth disc in March 2012.
To mark the milestone, Redbox will be offering promotional codes via its Facebook page, good for free one-day movie and video-game rentals. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s The Call, rented at a Walgreens in Littleton, Colo., was the 3 billionth disc rented. The next Redbox rental was the PlayStation 3 game The Last of Us, rented at a Walmart Supercenter in Kennesaw, Ga.
“It’s hard to imagine 3 billion of anything, really. But when you equate that to the number of times Americans have watched Hollywood’s best movies or become engrossed in new video games, this milestone becomes even more meaningful,” said Anne Saunders, president of Redbox. “We’re thrilled to celebrate this milestone with our customers for all the times they’ve brought Redbox home with them.”
Redbox reached 1 billion rentals during its seventh year of operation.
