’21 Jump Street,’ ‘The Hunger Games’ Among the Winners in Redbox’s Movie Awards

31 Jan, 2013 By: Ashley Ratcliff

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s 21 Jump Street took home honors for Most-Rented Comedy in the 2012 Redbox Movie Awards. In its second year, the awards recognize the top films and actors from the year, based on rental data and more than 30,000 survey responses from Redbox customers.

The “Ruby” for top drama went to Sony Pictures’ Moneyball; Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games was named Most-Rented Action Movie; Paramount/DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots was the Most-Rented Family Movie; and the Most-Rented Horror Movie was Sony Pictures’ The Woman in Black.

The 2012 Redbox Movie Award winners will be announced via a series of three animated videos, the first of which is currently streaming at redbox.com/MovieAwards.

The second video, available Feb. 4, will announce the winners of favorite hero, villain, animated character and dance scene. Due Feb. 8 are the announcements for most-rented actor and actress, as well as the Ruby for America’s most-rented Redbox movie of 2012.

New this year, Redbox is hosting a sweepstakes for one lucky film fanatic to win a Ruby for being the No. 1 Movie Fan, in addition to a Sony home theater system.

To enter to win the grand prize (valued at $5,000), contestants must submit a photo showing how they love movies more than anyone else. The deadline for entries is Feb. 9.

But everyone can get in on the fun through Feb. 28, as Redbox is offering special deals for users who text “RUBY” to 727272 when renting from the kiosks.
