'Walking Dead' Runs Away With Top Reaper Awards

22 Oct, 2012 By: John Latchem

Zombies overcame vampires and apes to score the top prize of the 2012 Reaper Awards. The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season — Special Edition, from Anchor Bay Entertainment, earned not only the Grimmy for Best TV on Disc, but for Title of the Year as well.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes, from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, also won two awards, taking Choice Theatrical Cut and Best Box Art. HBO Home Entertainment’s True Blood: The Complete Fourth Season won for Best Extras and Best Line of Dialogue: “I don’t care what happens as long as I get to kill shit!”

The Reaper Awards, presented by Home Media Magazine and DreadCentral.com, honor the top horror and thriller titles released between Aug. 1, 2011, and July 31, 2012. Studios submitted contenders for consideration by a panel of judges in conjunction with a consumer vote.

New this year was a category devoted to Spookiest Kidvid, with the winner receiving a special Grimmy Jr. trophy. The prize went to Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment’s 3D Blu-ray of The Nightmare Before Christmas.
