Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory: 40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition
Warner Home Video is re-releasing Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory as an eleborate special edition Oct. 4 (order date Aug. 30) for the fantasy film’s 40th anniversary.
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory: 40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition will contain more than an hour of extras, including Mel Stuart’s Wonkavision, a new interview with the director; a new featurette about Roald Dahl, author of the book upon which the movie is based; a 144-page production book reprint filled with photos and notes; and archival letters. The package also will contain a retro Wonka Bar-shaped tin box with scented pencils and eraser, and a limited-time Golden Ticket Instant Win Game piece for a chance to enter and win a trip for two to Los Angeles.
As in the movie, there will be five grand-prize winners. There also will be 40 reproductions of the original theatrical poster given away as runner-up prizes. Fans can visit willywonkamovie.com for more details.
The game runs through Jan 20, 2012, or while game pieces last, and is open to legal residents of the 50 U.S. states, as well as Washington, D.C., and Canada (excluding Quebec). Winners must be able to travel between April 1 and 15, 2012.
The set also includes extras from earlier releases, such as a commentary with the Wonka kids, the documentary Pure Imagination: The Story of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, and sing-alongs.
The three-disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition Blu-ray/DVD combo is offered at $64.99. A single-DVD version with some of the bonus content and some scratch-n-sniff sticker sheets will be offered for $12.97. Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory will be available digitally On Demand and for download through online retailers including iTunes and Amazon On Demand.
