Shout! Factory’s latest content acquisition deals involve a Kevin Smith comedy special, the 1980s animated series “Jem and the Holograms” and "Barney Miller."
As part of its content agreement with Hasbro, Shout! Factory (distributed by Vivendi Entertainment) will release Jem and the Holograms: The Truly Outrageous Complete Series Oct. 11. The 11-DVD set will include all 65 episodes from the 1985-88 animated series, plus archival material rarely seen by fans. Also available the same day will be the four-DVD boxed set Jem and the Holograms: Season One.
Oct. 25 Shout! releases Barney Miller: The Complete Series, featuring all eight seasons of the 1974-82 series (168 episodes) as a 25-DVD set with a 40-page booklet. The $159.99 set also includes season one of the spinoff series “Fish,” new interviews with series stars Hal Linden, Abe Vigoda and Max Gail; the original pilot episode; and commentaries and interviews with series writers.
Shout! also inked a deal for licensing rights to Kevin Smith’s comedy special Too Fat for 40 and his animated “SModimations.”
Kevin Smith: Too Fat for 40, planned for DVD and Blu-ray, offers a live performance by Smith to celebrate his 40th birthday, filmed at the Count Basie Theater in Smith’s hometown of Red Bank, N.J. Shout! Factory will offer an extended three-hour version of the show, plus an additional 90 minutes of footage from the evening.
“SModimations” is an animated retelling of Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier’s weekly “SModcast” podcast. The Shout! DVD version will edit season one into a single feature with newly created transition and the exclusive third part of the “Harry Scotter” trilogy, plus additional exclusive content.
