The Warner Archive Collection Sept. 19 releases Porky Pig 101, a DVD compilation of the first Warner Bros. cartoon superstar.

From his humble ensemble beginnings to a signature starring role in the studio’s premier cartoon series, “Looney Tunes,” the five-disc set will present 101 theatrical shorts from 1935-43 in chronological order, restored and remastered. Bonus commentaries with animation experts and film historians will be included on 13 shorts.

“Porky Pig 101 is another major step in Warner Archive Collection’s expanding footprint in diverse releases drawn from our company’s incredible library of filmed entertainment,” said George Feltenstein, SVP of theatrical catalog for Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. “There are a large number of dedicated adult collectors who recognize these animated shorts as essential examples of classic American cinema history, and this wonderful character compendium will particularly appeal to those sophisticated, knowledgeable fans.”

Nearly half of these cartoons have had no previous home entertainment release in any format and many have not been seen in decades subsequent to their original theatrical release, or as part of early television-era airings.

“Fans will finally see these cartoons just as they were originally seen in the theaters, and that includes some of these treasured shorts — like Slap Happy Pappy and early Chuck Jones works like Porky’s Prize Pony and Porky’s Ant — that actually haven’t been publicly seen in decades,” Feltenstein said. “We’re especially proud to make all of these cartoons available in one comprehensive collection.”

The DVD will be available through wb.com/warnerarchive and online retailers.
