27 Jun, 2012 By: John Latchem

BBC Home Entertainment’s first UltraViolet-enabled title will be the movie Going for Gold: The ’48 Games, which tells the story of gold medal scullers Bert Bushnell and Dickie Burnell at the 1948 London Olympics.

The film is set for release on DVD ($19.97) July 31, timed to take advantage of the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.

“With all the excitement around London this summer, Going for Gold is the perfect title for our first UltraViolet release,” said Soumya Sriraman, EVP of home entertainment and licensing for BBC. “We have always been known for the quality of our content, and now consumers will have greater choice as to when, where and how they view it.”

UltraViolet lets viewers who buy the disc also access the film through a range of devices, including computers, tablets, smartphones and game consoles.

Going for Gold stars Matt Smith (“Doctor Who”) as Bert and Sam Hoare as Dickie, and relates how they turned their unlikely pairing just six months before the games into an Olympic championship.
