Report: ‘Hunger Games’ Download Searches Can be ‘Poisonous’

'The Hunger Games'

Lionsgsate’s The Hunger Games has closed in on the $250 million domestic box office mark in just 10 days, but there still are plenty of people looking around online to watch it for free.

Those looking for a free copy online could be in for a nasty surprise, according to Internet security company Symantec Corp.

The company found numerous links related to the searches “Hunger Games Free Movie Download,” “Hunger Games Full Movie Torrent” and “Hunger Games Suzanne Collins” that will turn up malicious results. The company found links related to those searches that would instantly infect computers with viruses, keylogging programs — which allow someone to monitor what’s being typed on the computer — and other software that can cause problems with computers, tablets and smartphones.

“Where there are curious fans scouring the Internet for information and exclusive sneak peeks, there are crafty cybercriminals looking to capitalize,” Symantec said in a statement. “Don't be tempted by false hope: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Evaluate the information you come across as though it were propaganda from the Capitol. All that glitters isn't gold, so don't let your curiosity overcome common sense.”
