'Fast Five'
Pirated copies of Universal’s Fast Five were downloaded more than 9.2 million times during 2011, making it the No. 1 pirated of the year, according to the website TorrentFreak.
The Hangover Part II (8.8 million) and Thor (8.3 million) were second and third, respectively, but overall pirated BitTorrent movies were downloaded less in 2011 than in 2010, the site reported. 2010’s leading pirated film, Avatar, was downloaded 16 million times that year.
“In part this drop might be explained by the increase in legal alternatives, although upcoming alternative piracy sources (such as cyberlockers and steaming sites) may have also had an effect,” TorrentFreak reported. “However, since the total number of active BitTorrent users isn’t shrinking, the downloads may simply be spread out over more titles in 2011.”
Source Code, I Am Number Four, Sucker Punch, 127 Hours, Rango, The King’s Speech and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 rounded out the top 10 most-pirated films for 2011.
