Turner Classic Movies Host Robert Osborne Dies

Robert Osborne, host of Turner Classic Movies, The Movie Channel and former columnist for The Hollywood Reporter, has died, according to . He was 84. Cause of death was not immediately made public.

Osborne developed a following for his insightful introductions to more than 400 classic movies, as well as actors and directors. He reportedly was the official biographer of the Academy Awards. 

Osborne also helped market on DVD and Blu-ray Disc. 

“All of us at Turner Classic Movies are deeply saddened by the death of Robert Osborne. He was a beloved member of Turner family for more than 23 years. He joined us as an expert on classic film and grew to be our cherished colleague and esteemed ambassador for TCM,” Jennifer Dorian, GM of Turner Classic Movies, said in a statement.

Dorian said Osborne’s editorial contributions were fundamental to shaping TCM as a destination for movie buffs and cinephiles.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time,” she said.
