NAVD Executive Director Bill Burton Retiring

21 Jan, 2014 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Bill Burton, executive director of the National Association of Video Distributors (NAVD), Jan. 21 announced he is retiring in the spring.

The Entertainment Merchants Association said it would assume Burton’s responsibilities at NAVD upon his retirement.

Under an agreement between NAVD and EMA, EMA will provide association management services for NAVD. EMA will coordinate board and committee meetings, provide financial management, and be responsible for member communications and public relations for NAVD. EMA will also produce the NAVD trade conference, which will return this year after taking a one-year hiatus.

“Bill Burton has been a tremendous leader of NAVD for the past 19 years, and we wish him the best in retirement,” NAVD president Bob Webb said in a statement. “During Bill’s tenure, the distribution industry transitioned from primarily serving rentailers to servicing the needs of a wide variety of retail channels. Bill’s focus never wavered from acting in the best interest of the NAVD members.”

Burton served as EVP of distributor WaxWorks for 11 years. During that time he served on NAVD’s board of directors from 1986 to 1995. In 1995 he resigned his position at WaxWorks to become executive director of NAVD.

“There are a great number of synergies between our two organizations, and we look forward to leveraging those to benefit NAVD,” EMA president Mark Fisher said.
