Netflix announced that Greg Peters would become chief product officer in July, replacing Neil Hunt, who has held the position for 18 years. Most recently, Peters has been instrumental guiding Netflix’s foray into Japan, working from an office in Tokyo since 2015.
Hunt was key to Netflix branching out beyond physical disc rentals and into subscription streaming in 2007. He played a major role in most user innovations over years, including multiple users on one account, 4K content and recommendation software, among others.
Prior to joining Netflix, Peters was SVP of consumer electronics products at Macrovision Solutions and previously held positions at Mediabolic, Red Hat Network and Wine.com.
“Greg and Neil have collaborated through the years to make the Netflix experience all over the world absolutely incredible,” CEO Reed Hastings said in a statement. “I look forward to having Greg take on this role and to celebrate with Neil our 100 millionth member.”
Separately, Netflix announced that chief talent officer Tawni Cranz, who joined the company in 2007, is leaving to pursue other interests.
