EMA to Honor Paul Reiser
29 Mar, 2016 By: Stephanie PrangeThe Entertainment Merchants Association April 12 will present actor/writer/producer Paul Reiser with its 2016 Independent Career Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding roles in independent film and TV productions.
The award will be presented at the EMA’s Independent Product Market taking place at the Marina del Rey Marriott.
“Paul Reiser is truly worthy of this award,” said EMA president and CEO Mark Fisher. “He has supported independent productions as both an actor and a screenwriter, creating many memorable roles and providing great entertainment for the home video audience.”
Reiser is best known for the NBC series “Mad About You,” which he co-created and starred in opposite Helen Hunt. The complete series of “Mad About You,” which received 12 Emmys and four Golden Globe awards, will be released on DVD by Mill Creek Entertainment May 3, 2016.
Reiser first came to note in 1982’s Diner and later appeared in 1986's Aliens. His work in independent film includes One Night at McCool’s (2001), The Thing About My Folks (2005) — which was also Reiser’s first original screenplay — the Academy Award-winning Whiplash (2014), and Concussion (2015). His upcoming independent films include The Darkness with Kevin Bacon, Devil and the Deep Blue Sea with Jason Sudeikis and Maisie Williams, and War on Everyone with Alexander Skarsgard and Michael Pena. Reiser returned to television last year in the FX series “Married” and currently stars in the Amazon Original Series “Red Oaks.”
Reiser also wrote the New York Times bestseller Couplehood as well as its follow-up bestsellers Babyhood and Familyhood as well as the theme song for “Mad About You.” He continues to tour the nation with his stand-up comedy act.
