Flixster.com Bows App for Panasonic TVs, Blu-ray Disc Players

Application allows users to access their UltraViolet movies from the cloud

Flixster.com June 18 said its movie application is now available on Panasonic's line of 2013 Viera connected devices, including smart TVs and Blu–ray Disc players. By launching the app, users can watch their UltraViolet movie collection.

UltraViolet is the cloud-based content storage platform initiated by Hollywood studios (except Disney), including Warner Bros., which owns San Francisco-based Flixster. UltraViolet has more than 13 million registered users.

A perceived challenge to wider consumer adoption of UltraViolet has been the limited number of consumer electronics devices able to access the cloud-based content. While many CE manufacturers are members of the Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem — the consortium in charge of UV — accessing cloud-based content requires an Internet connection and often a software upgrade.

“More consumers are taking advantage of their connected TVs and Blu-ray players, giving them incredibly convenient access to their favorite entertainment,” said Joe Greenstein, co-founder and CEO of Flixster. “With Flixster for Panasonic's Web-enabled HDTVs and Blu-ray players, movie fans can now access their entire UltraViolet movie collections, regardless of which service they purchased the movie from, though one touch of their remote.”
