6 Nov, 2014 By: John Latchem

Shout! Factory has been busy as a bee at the Nov. 5-12 American Film Market in Santa Monica, Calif.

Nov. 5 Shout! Factory announced a deal with Germany-based Studio 100 Film to bring the latter’s “Maya the Bee” children’s property to North America.

Shout! Factory has secured exclusive United States and Canadian distribution rights to Maya the Bee — Movie, including theatrical, home entertainment, digital distribution and broadcast for cross-platform releases. Shout! Factory plans a strategic rollout of this film in select theaters, subscription video-on-demand, VOD, electronic-sell-through, television and in all packaged media in 2015.

“Maya the Bee” is a worldwide brand that debuted in books more than 100 years ago.

“The worldwide sales of the movie to more than 100 countries illustrate the continuous popularity of this well-known and much-loved brand and the rising demand for great family entertainment,” said Patrick Elmendorff, CEO of Studio 100 Media.

Nov. 6, Shout! Factory acquired distribution rights to Over Your Dead Body from Mongrel International in partnership with Celluloid Dreams.

Over Your Dead Body, from director Takashi Miike (Audition), finds life imitating art for a troupe of performers rehearsing a production of Yotsuya Kaidan — a 200-year-old tale of murder, betrayal and phantasmagorical vengeance.

Shout! Factory plans a strategic rollout of the film in the United States and Canada on a variety of entertainment distribution platforms and in all packaged media in 2015.

“Takashi Miike is unquestionably one of the preeminent filmmakers of his generation, and his uniquely creative take on this classic Japanese ghost story will both delight his longtime fans and earn him new ones,” said Shout! Factory founders Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos in a statement.
