Rovi Licenses Program Guide Technology to Japanese Mobile Company

23 Apr, 2014 By: Chris Tribbey

Rovi Corp. has licensed its video discovery and interactive program guide (IPG) patents and technologies to NTT Docomo, Japan’s No. 1 mobile service provider.

NTT Docomo, which was already licensing Rovi’s HTML-based G-Guide TV product and IPG patents for use in mobile handsets, will use the video discovery and IPG technology for its VOD services, the companies announced.

“In Japan, enjoying entertainment via a smartphone or tablet is becoming mainstream,” said Samir Armaly, EVP of worldwide intellectual property licensing for Rovi. “The technologies and patents that we’re developing at Rovi will help leading companies like NTT Docomo offer new, feature-rich applications to support their entertainment services.”
