Redbox president Mark Horak, Lionsgate’s Jim Packer and Ron Schwartz, HBO, and filmmaker Paul Feig will be honored Dec. 8 at the 35th annual Press Play: Variety Home Entertainment and Digital Hall of Fame at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.
The event, which takes place from 7 to 9 p.m., benefits City Year, an education-focused, nonprofit organization that partners with public schools and teachers to help keep students in school and on track to succeed. The public-private partnership brings together teams of young AmeriCorps members who commit to a year of full-time service in schools.
The Hall of Fame gala dinner and awards show event recognizes home entertainment trailblazers who are pushing to maximize the revenue lifecycles for film, TV and video games across Blu-ray/DVD and digital formats.
A 30-year home entertainment veteran, Horak has led Redbox since March 2014, after serving as president of the Americas at Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. Horak also is chairman of the Los Angeles advisory board of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Lionsgate’s Packer and Schwartz co-head worldwide home entertainment. Packer is also president of worldwide TV and digital distribution, and Schwartz also holds the title of president of home entertainment. They head up Lionsgate Home Entertainment, an industry leader in box-office-to-DVD and box-office-to-VOD revenue conversion rates. The duo oversees a library of approximately 16,000 films and TV titles, including the “Hunger Games” franchise and the Netflix hit “Orange Is the New Black.”
HBO’s Sofia Chang, EVP of worldwide distribution and home entertainment, will accept the award for HBO, which is at the forefront of delivering programming for the multiplatform audience through its premium cable service, HBO Now standalone streaming channel, HBO Go, DVD, Blu-ray and digital home entertainment formats.
Feig is an acclaimed writer, director, producer and actor who most recently wrote, directed and produced the blockbuster film Spy. Other hits include The Heat and Bridesmaids. Founder of the production company Feigco Entertainment, Feig is currently in production on an all-female reboot of the “Ghostbusters” franchise.
