'Justice League' Movie To Bow at Comic-Con

Home entertainment industry is ready for the confab


This year’s San Diego Comic-Con International, running July 18 to 21 in and around the San Diego Convention Center, once again features several home entertainment tie-ins, in addition to the usual assortment of television shows and upcoming movies being promoted there.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will present the world premiere of its latest DC Universe animated superhero movie, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 19, in Ballroom 20, followed by a cast and crew panel and prize giveaways for the fans. The movie arrives on DVD and Blu-ray July 30.

Similarly, Warner will preview the new documentary Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 18, in Room 6DE. The film arrives on home video Oct. 25.

Sony is hosting a Blu-ray release party for Evil Dead from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, July 20 at The Commons. The director Fede Alvarez and star Jane Levy will be there and will sign autographs.

Disney will host a screening and panel for the new Marvel One Shot: Agent Carter short film starring Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger) at 7 p.m. Friday, July 19, at the Reading Cinemas Gaslamp 15. The short will be featured with the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray arriving Sept. 24.

Blu-ray fans in the exhibition hall can stop by the 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment booth (#3528) to buy classic sci-fi and cult films with limited-edition Comic-Con covers, including 1958’s The Fly, which won’t be distributed widely on Blu-ray until Sept. 10.

The annual Blu-ray producers panel hosted by is slated for 4 p.m. Thursday, July 18, in Room 5AB. Panelists include Charles de Lauzirika (Pain and Gain), Robert Meyer Burnett (“Star Trek: The Next Generation”), Cliff Stephenson (Escape Plan), Shout! Factory’s Brian Ward and Kino Lorber’s Eric D. Wilkinson, as well as representatives from Warner Archive.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu and actor Ray Park, who played Snake Eyes in the film, will be in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con International July 18 and 19 to sign show-exclusive Blu-ray sleeves. The film arrives on Blu-ray and DVD July 30 from Paramount Home Media Distribution. Chu will appear from 4 to 5 p.m. July 18 and Park will appear from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. July 19 at the Hasbro Booth (#3213).

Shout! Factory’s Scream Factory horror home video line will be the subject of a panel at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 19, in Room 24ABC. Plus, the Shout! Factory booth (#4248) offers a variety of exclusives, such as a “My Little Pony” Princess Twilight Sparkle crown to promote the DVD and Blu-ray of My Little Pony Equestria Girls arriving Aug. 6.
