As expected, Miramax March 7 named veteran industry executive Eric Doctorow EVP of worldwide home entertainment and distribution.

As Home Media Magazine reported March 4, Doctorow came to Miramax from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, where he was GM of home entertainment worldwide in association with the famed studio’s retail distributor, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Miramax, which was recently sold by The Walt Disney Co. to a group of investors, has aggressively sought to delegate distribution of its 700-title catalog simultaneously across multiple platforms and channels.

Since that December transaction, Miramax signed several long-term distribution deals, including separate pacts with Lionsgate, Paris-based Studiocanal for home entertainment in Europe, Echo Bridge for select Miramax titles in the United States, and Alliance Films in Canada.

Doctorow will have day-to-day responsibility for all of these strategic relationships going forward, according to Miramax CEO Mike Lang, who Doctorow reports to in Santa Monica, Calif.

“Our partnerships in home entertainment and international distribution are a key part of our strategy, and Eric will manage these important relationships, not only with existing partners such as Lionsgate, but the many more to come,” Lang said.
