Click Communications Acquires Carl Samrock PR to Form New Agency

15 Mar, 2017 By: Stephanie Prange

Digital marketing firm Click Communications is acquiring veteran PR executive Carl Samrock’s publicity firm to create Team Click, a new full-service agency.

Team Click will combine the Carl Samrock Public Relations (CSPR) team’s extensive experience in traditional publicity with Click Communications’ online marketing expertise, according to a press release from Click.

Click and CSPR have had a strategic partnership for more than six years, working on projects for Hollywood studios including Warner Bros., Walt Disney Studios, Sony, Universal, Lionsgate and DreamWorks Animation.

Click founder Mac McLean noted that Team Click’s strong digital footprint will be key, and that the company will successfully bridge an all-too-common gap between the marketing and publicity departments.

McLean and his wife, co-founder and partner Dinah McLean, will lead Team Click, along with their digital leadership team, Brigid Margeson and Emily Ronkar. Samrock will continue in an ongoing consultancy role. Karen Penhale, who runs CSPR’s home entertainment division, will oversee Team Click’s traditional publicity strategies that include national print and broadcast media, as well as elements of social media.

The announcement comes as Click Communications celebrates its 10th anniversary.

“This is an exciting new chapter in Click’s ongoing evolution,” McLean said. “We’re so proud to bring CSPR into the team not only because it expands and strengthens our services, but it solidifies a successful partnership rooted in excellent work, shared values and a mutual love of entertainment.”

“I’m delighted to be joining Team Click and to be making our partnership official,” Samrock said. “As we expand into new areas, we join a staff that has always loved what they do, does it really well, and is always challenging us to learn and move to the next level in this fast-paced and quickly-changing media space. As a bonus, they’re all ardent fans of pop culture.”

Veteran PR exec Samrock formed CSPR in 1997 with his wife, Carol Samrock, a former advertising executive. CSPR’s first client was Warner Home Video with an assignment to help launch the new medium of DVD. Other studios soon hired CSPR. In 2000, Karen Penhale, who came from motion picture production, switched careers and joined CSPR. She led the company in staging numerous events and national press tours for titles including Casablanca, Citizen Kane, The Wizard of Oz, Gone With the Wind, Blade Runner, Singin’ in the Rain, Ghostbusters, Men in Black, the “Seinfeld” DVD series, “Breaking Bad,” “The Norman Lear Collection” and many of Disney’s and Sony’s major animated feature films and DreamWorks animated TV shows.
