Animated Jackie Chan Movie to Debut on DirecTV Cinema

Viva Pictures and DirecTV have obtained exclusive U.S. distribution rights to the animated movie Monkey King: Hero Is Back, starring Jackie Chan as the mythological title character.

The film will debut May 26 on DirecTV Cinema followed by a theatrical release in July.

Monkey King: Hero Is Back was originally released in China last year and earned $177 million at the international box office.

In addition to Chan, the voice cast includes James Hong (Blade Runner, Mulan) and Nika Futterman (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” The Boxtrolls).
