Microcinema’s Monster Road: Collector’s Edition ($24.95) offers a curious glimpse into what drives the creative process. The focus is on underground clay-animator Bruce Bickford, who collaborated with Frank Zappa in the 1970s but now spends his time creating little-seen films in his basement, and caring for his father, who is stricken with Alzheimer’s.

Director Brett Ingram combines footage from Bickford’s films with new interviews and family movies to craft a fascinating portrait of an artist constantly clinging to his child-like sense of wonder.
