Lionsgate has acquired the distribution rights to MGA Entertainment’s popular toy brand Lalaloopsy for all packaged-media and digital platforms in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, among other regions.
Adventures in Lalaloopsy Land: The Search for Pillow, Lionsgate’s initial release for the brand, will arrive on DVD this March.
“We have been very impressed by Lalaloopsy’s exponential growth as a brand since [its] launch in 2010, developing beyond the initial doll line into several additional categories, such as apparel, fashion accessories, video games and books,” said Anne Parducci, Lionsgate EVP of family entertainment. “We are excited to help bring the highly successful Lalaloopsy doll line to life through the first ‘Lalaloopsy’ movie. The unique stories that each doll has, combined with all of their wonderful friends and accessories, lends itself perfectly to the type of high-quality, engaging [premier] children’s entertainment that has become the trademark of our family division.”
MGA Entertainment CEO Isaac Larian added, “MGA has enjoyed a great partnership with Lionsgate through the years, as witnessed by the popularity of Bratz home entertainment. They have an amazing library of family friendly films and we are thrilled to add the magic of Lalaloopsy to the Lionsgate family this spring.”
