LG Bringing OLED TV Lineup to CES2 Jan, 2014 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Five new TVs include 4K ultra HD resolution
LG Electronics Jan. 2 said it would showcase a line-up of five new OLED televisions at 2014 International CES Jan. 7-10 in Las Vegas. OLED refers to TV sets’ ultra-sharp organic light-emitting diodes.
TVs have been a mainstay at CES for years, with 3D and Internet-connectivity features popular in recent years. This year, screen size, picture clarity and screen aesthetics appear to be the focus.
On display will be LG’s 77-inch Ultra HD Curved OLED TV, along with various new 55- and 65-inch class OLED TV models. Also on display will be the 55-inch Gallery OLED TV and the environmentally friendly Curved OLED TV.
The 55-, 65- and 77-inch Ultra HD Curved OLED TVs feature 4K Ultra HD screen resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels). The 77-inch model received the CES 2014 "Best of Innovations" award, according to LG.
Consistent with an ongoing eco-friendly theme in consumer electronics, the color temperature of each pixel on the 77-inch display is automatically controlled by the LG Color Refiner, resulting in superior consistency and balance. The Ultra HD Curved OLED TV also features Ultra Cinema 3D.
"All of the OLED models … offer the ultimate in picture quality and refined, modern aesthetics," said In-kyu Lee, SVP and head of the TV division at the LG Electronics Home Entertainment company, in a statement.
Indeed, the Ultra HD Curved OLED TVs also includes HDMI 2.0 capability. A built-in decoder makes it possible to display Ultra HD content from external devices connected via the TV's HDMI, USB or LAN ports.
