Gaiam Vivendi Redoubles 'Ultimate' Super Bowl DVD Marketing

29 Dec, 2012 By: Erik Gruenwedel

With Super Bowl 47 slated to kick off Feb. 3, 2013, Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment has upped marketing of NFL Super Bowl Collection I-XLVI, the DVD box set featuring every Super Bowl since the first contest between the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers in 1967.

Dubbed “The Ultimate Collection,” the DVD-only set (no Blu-ray) includes 23 discs, 46 films and 45 hours of football action from NFL Productions.

Gaiam Vivendi ran a full-page ad in the Dec. 24 issue of Sports Illustrated with the tag, “A Front Row Seat to 46 Amazing Super Bowls.”

Interestingly, Super Bowl I was actually called “First World Championship Game AFL vs. NFL,” and was the only one not to sell out. It also was simulcast on CBS and NBC as the networks held separate broadcast rights to National Football League and American Football League games. Halftime entertainment consisted of the University of Michigan and Arizona marching bands — a far cry from recent Super Bowls featuring popular singers and music acts.

Super Bowl 47 features R&B diva Beyoncé.

Released in November, the box set has a $249.95 SRP but is available on Amazon for $90.
