Hulu Plus Updates Apple TV App

19 Mar, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Hulu Plus, the subscription video-on-demand service co-owned by The Walt Disney Co., News Corp. and NBC Universal, March 19 said it has updated its Apple TV app, which originally launched last summer.

Apple TV is a streaming player similar to Roku, Seagate and WD media set-top devices. Hulu Plus competes with Netflix and Amazon Prime Instant Video in the burgeoning SVOD market.

Hulu’s updated Apple TV app includes new content categories across the top navigation bar to make it easy to jump to a chosen section – whether it is TV programs, children’s content, Latino fare, search, or something else. Inside each category, users will be presented up front with new programming options to make it easier to find new shows and keep up with current shows.

The “Shows You Watch” feature enables users to jump to their favorite shows when logging on.

“We built this to make sure users never miss a new episode or lose their place in a series,” wrote Dave Herman senior product manager, living room with Hulu in a blog . “Simply press the ‘play’ button and the latest episode of the series will automatically start playing.”

To get the latest Hulu Plus app on Apple TV, users must be running the latest firmware. If unsure, go to “settings” on the Apple TV home screen and under “general” choose “update software.”
