UltraFlix Expands to Roku 2 & 3 Devices

1 Jun, 2016 By: Erik Gruenwedel

UltraFlix, the 4K UHD streaming service, is now available on Roku 2 and Roku 3 HD streaming media devices. The SVOD service, owned by San Jose, Calif.-based NanoTech Entertainment, launched last December on the Roku 4 player. The UltraFlix app is available on 4K Smart TVs from Samsung, Sony, Vizio, HiSense and others.

British research firm Strategy Analytics projects 50% market penetration by 2020 for 4K Ultra HD TVs.

“Ultra HD will become the standard resolution for virtually all large-screen TVs within four-years' time,” David Watkins, service director for connected home devices at Strategy Analytics, said in a statement. “By offering customers HD versions of quality content library, Roku users can now experience the best version of movies available on the platform.”

UltraFlix’s 4K content includes movies from Paramount Pictures, MGM, Millennium, Magnolia and Warner Bros., award-winning documentaries made for Imax theaters, TV series from A&E Networks and time-lapse motion art from independent producers.

4K movies include The Terminator, Star Trek, Mission: Impossible, The Godfather, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Gladiator and World War Z, among others.

“The success of the Roku platform and its strong customer engagement can be attributed to the company’s focus on choice, a simple user experience and innovation,” Aaron Taylor, EVP of sales and marketing at NanoTech, said last December.
