'Ghostbusters,' 'Star Trek' Coming to 4K Blu-ray
4 Apr, 2016 By: John LatchemParamount Home Media Distribution is stepping into the 4K foray June 14 with UHD Blu-ray releases of 2009’s Star Trek and its 2013 sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness.
The releases are timed for the 50th anniversary of the debut of the original “Star Trek” series and the July 22 theatrical release of Star Trek Beyond.
Both Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness have been digitally remastered with new 4K UHD transfers with high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos soundtracks. Each film will be presented in a three-disc UHD/Blu-ray/Digital HD Combo Pack at $47.99. Star Trek features a bonus Blu-ray disc loaded with more than three hours of behind-the-scenes content, including commentary, deleted scenes, making-of featurettes, a gag reel and a Starfleet Vessel Simulator. The Star Trek Into Darkness UHD and Blu-ray Discs include the Imax version of the film and the package also includes a bonus Blu-ray disc with more than two hours of special features, such as a commentary, featurettes, deleted scenes and a gag reel.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment June 7 will release 1984’s Ghostbusters and 1989’s Ghostbusters II on UHD Blu-ray combo packs that also includes the films on standard Blu-ray with bonus features and Digital HD.
Sony Pictures will also release more than 50 episodes of the 1980s animated series “The Real Ghostbusters” July 7 on DVD and Digital.
The releases are timed for the theatrical debut of the Ghostbusters remake July 15.
Ghostbusters extras include a commentary, deleted scenes, a music video, featurettes, retrospective interviews and a “Slimer Mode” picture-in-picture and trivia track. Ghostbusters II extras include a retrospective roundtable, deleted scenes and a music video.
