Amazon Video Streaming in Dolby Vision High Dynamic Range

27 Jun, 2016 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Amazon June 27 announced it would begin offering select content in Dolby Vision high dynamic range (HDR) resolution, including the second season of original series “Bosch” on Prime Video. The e-commerce giant is also offering digital sales of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s The Smurfs 2, After Earth, Men in Black 3, Hancock, Salt, Pineapple Express, Fury, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Chappie and Elysium in HDR on Amazon Video.

“We will continue to expand our selection, adding more movies and TV series for our customers to watch and enjoy in the premium picture quality of HDR,” Jim Freeman, VP of Amazon Video, said in a statement.

SPHE remains at the forefront distributing 4K Ultra HD movies with HDR. In April, it bowed the ULTRA movie streaming service featuring Sony movies in UHD.

“ULTRA takes advantage of the latest industry innovations — 4K resolution, high dynamic range, a wider color spectrum, digital movie extras and UltraViolet interoperability — so viewers get the most out of their televisions and their movie collections,” Jake Winett, VP of consumer services and advanced platforms at SPHE, said at the time.
