It was just a matter of time. 4K Ultra-HD, the next-generation high-resolution format, is coming to the adult entertainment industry.
4K technology offers video resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels or 8.3 million pixels — four times the number of pixels of standard full HD.
San Diego-based Naughty America Jan. 13 released what it claims is the porn industry’s first 4K for a series of upcoming UHD adult movies. Of course playing the “safe-at-work” preview requires not just high bandwidth, but an appropriate HD monitor.
“Our aim is to make your fantasy a reality. To do this, Naughty America lives on the leading edge of technology,” founder Andreas Hronopoulos said in a statement.
A prominent headline at the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, 4K UHD is making its way into televisions and Blu-ray Disc players manufactured by Samsung, Sony and LG, among others.
Similarly to Netflix, which said it would stream Golden Globe and Emmy winning original series, “House of Cards” in 4K, Naughty America charges subscribers a monthly $25 fee for unlimited online streaming access to adult films in HD. Access to 4K fare will cost an additional $10 monthly.
Hronopoulos said filming in 4K requires a substantial investment in equipment, including cameras and editing on Apple’s new Mac Pro. For example, a 30-minute 4K video can require up to 1TB of storage, in additional to compatible servers.
“You need a lot of computing power,” he told The Wall Street Journal. “The closer we can come to making it feel like you’re there, the more successful we are.”
Separately, Naughty America is accepting unused holiday gift cards from myriad retailers (Best Buy, Target, Starbucks, etc.) that can be traded for online access to adult films. A $25 gift card gets 24-day access to Naughty America, $50 gets you 48 days, etc., when traded at .
