Quality assurance company 3rd i QC has established Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc verification rooms at its Culver City, Calif. The new evaluation rooms are equipped with UHD players and displays and proprietary audio metering technology for testing high dynamic range, extended color gamut, high frame rates, advanced audio output and more UHDBD capabilities.
“We expect Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs to take full advantage of the new object-based advanced audio formats Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, which offer a true three-dimensional sound field emanating from not only around, but also above the viewer, immersing them in the middle of the action,” said 3rd i QC’s CTO Ramón Bretón.
Kelly Wininger, 3rd i QC optical disc account director, said the company has been approached by several major studios to help prepare the first wave of Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs, slated for early next year.
“Our clients trust that the real-time analysis we are known for will ensure that these discs, which will be among the first to hit the market, will provide a frustration-free experience for the consumer,” Wininger said.
So far, only 20th Century Fox and Sony Pictures have announced plans to release movies on UHDBD.
