Report: Panasonic, Sony End OLED Partnership
27 Dec, 2013 By: Chris Tribbey
Ahead of the International Consumer Electronics Show, Sony and Panasonic have ended their joint-development agreement for OLED (organic light-emitting diodes) display technology, and each will instead focus on Ultra-HD 4K displays, according to a report from the Nikkei Asian Review.
The two consumer electronics companies were unable to make OLED panels durable or cheap enough for mass production, according to the report, leading them to let their mutual contract expire at the end of 2013, according to the report.
The NPD Group Dec. 23 forecast more than 12.7 million 4K TVs will be shipped in 2014.
