Market saw 7.9% drop, compared with 14.3% reduction through March 31
Industry sales of DVD and Blu-ray Disc movies declined less than 8% through April 29 compared with the previous-year period, Trans World Entertainment Corp. disclosed in a June 8 — citing data from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
TWEC operates f.y.e. (For Your Entertainment) retail stores nationwide, in addition to Second Spin used-packaged-media outlets and Etailz.com.
The drop is notable considering packaged-media revenue fell more than 14% through the most-recent fiscal quarter — ended March 31, according to DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group.
Regardless, TWEC said same-store f.y.e. video sales dropped 17% — underscored in part by a 6% drop in total operating stores. The company operated 273 locations in the period compared to 290 stores in the previous-year period.
Video represented 35% of f.y.e. store revenue, compared with 40% a year ago.
