Starz Distribution Reports Third-Quarter Profit

29 Oct, 2015 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Starz Distribution, which is a unit of Starz LLC, Oct. 29 reported third-quarter operating income of $900,000 compared to an operating loss of $500,000 during the previous-year period.

Starz Distribution develops, produces and acquires entertainment content, distributing it on disc, digital and television. Starz Distribution's home video, digital and worldwide business units, which include Anchor Bay Home Entertainment, distribute original programming content produced by Starz, as well as third parties, notably The Weinstein Co.

Revenue dropped 11% to $65.6 million, from $73.5 million a year ago. Home entertainment revenue dropped 21% to $34.3 million, from $43.4 million.

Starz attributed the declines in part due to reduced revenue from AMC Networks' “The Walking Dead,” and no significant new Starz original series releases in the quarter. Both factors were partially offset by the distribution of TWC movies.

Recent releases from Anchor Bay Home Entertainment include: Southpaw, Big Eyes and The Imitation Game.

The Imitation Game has sold 577,000 combined DVD/Blu-ray Discs for $9.2 million in revenue, according to The-Numbers.com.

Anchor Bay and Starz  Digital recently released “The Walking Dead: Season 5” on Blu-ray Disc, DVD, and select digital platforms, and “Fear The Walking Dead” is slated for December release.
