Disney CFO Avoids ‘John Carter’ Fiscal Discussion

Walt Disney Co. CFO Jay Rasulo declined discussing the financial impact mega-budget John Carter would have on the studio’s operations going forward, during a March 13 Q&A session at Disney’s 2012 shareholder meeting in Kansas City, Mo.

Rasulo was asked for an update on the reported $250 million dollar sci-fi adventure film, which generated about $30 million its opening weekend domestically. The CFO said determining the fiscal impact of a movie that has only been in theaters for about five days, with some foreign markets still to open would be premature.

“It’s very early to talk about the financials results,” Rasulo said. “I don’t really want to give any numbers out.”

Analysts project Disney may have to write off upwards of $100 million in losses on the film.
