Fox Bows 'Movie of the Day' App on iTunes

20th Century Fox Digital Entertainment May 27 launched an app on iTunes offering special 24-hour pricing on new and catalog digital-release movies. Apple iTunes is considered the largest retailer of digital moves and TV shows.

Dubbed “Movie of the Day!,” the app is good for blockbusters to indies and catalog titles. All transaction prices are good for 24 hours, done through iTunes and saved in the cloud.

For example, X-Men: Days of Future Past was available for $6.99 — down 53% from the $14.99 SRP. Indie hit Sideways was available for $7.99 from $14.99.

The app is only applicable to iOS devices, but reports say it could be expanded to Android, including Google Play.

Consumer spending on Digital HD rose 22%, to an estimated $431 million in the first three months of this year compared with $352 million during the previous-year period, according to DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group.
