New Apple iPad Pro Features 4K Resolution

Smaller 9.7-inch tablet includes 12-megapixel camera for ultra-HD resolution video and photos

As expected, Apple Corp. March 21 unveiled a smaller — 9.7-inch — iPad Pro tablet with stronger (four) speakers, enhanced display and 4K-resolution camera, among other features. SRP for the new tablet is $599 for the 32GB Wi-Fi-only model; $749 for 128GB, and $899 for 256GB. Colors include silver, space gray, gold and a new rose gold metallic finish.

The tech giant also bowed a smaller (4-inch) iPhone SE.

The new tablet, which includes the identical 64-bit A9X processor and 4GB RAM as its predecessors, weighs less than a pound, features a 12-megapixel camera capable of filming and shooting 4K video and faster wireless technology. The “true tone” display uses new four-channel sensors to adjust the white balance of the display to match the light around the user for a more natural and accurate, paper-white viewing experience.

Apple says the 6.1mm thin iPad Pro includes an advanced display that is 25% brighter and 40% less reflective than iPad Air 2, making content even easier to see indoors and out. It uses the same wider color gamut as the iMac with “retina 5K” display, delivering 25% greater color saturation.

The company also introduced an updated Apple Pencil available for $99 and a “smart keyboard” in charcoal gray for $149. The polyurethane iPad Pro “smart cover” and silicone cases for the 9.7-inch iPad Pro are available for $49 and $69, respectively, in a range of new colors.

“iPad Pro is a new generation of iPad that is indispensable and immersive, enabling people to be more productive and more creative,” said Philip Schiller, SVP of worldwide marketing at Apple.

The tablet will go on sale March 31 in Australia, Canada, China (Wi-Fi models only), France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the U.K., U.S. Virgin Islands and the United States.

It will be available in early April in Albania, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Cayman Islands, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Greenland, Guam, Guatemala, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Macau (Wi-Fi models only), Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand (Wi-Fi models only), Turkey and UAE.
