Universal, Hulu to Make First AFM Appearance

16 Oct, 2012 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Repurposed TV content aggregator Hulu.com, digital theatrical screen distributor Cinedigm Entertainment Group and Universal Studios Home Entertainment will make their first appearances at the 2012 American Film Market Oct. 31 to Nov. 7 in Santa Monica, Calif.

The annual film market features more than 750 companies from 70 countries buying and selling independent films (many earmarked for packaged media and digital distribution) — including 120 companies from 23 countries for the first time, according to Jonathan Wolf, AFM managing director and EVP of the Independent Film and Television Alliance.

"We are seeing a shift in the way sub-distributors acquire film as they steadily rely less on local distributors and more on direct acquisitions,” Wolf said in a statement.  “We also expect a significant increase in buyers from China.”

Countries with the most new buyers include Korea (25), China (13), United States (11), Japan (6), Turkey (6), Russia (5), France (4) and Italy (4).
