From the looks of his latest Comedy Central stand-up special, Bill Cosby’s still got it. In the 95-minute routine taped in front of a live audience in Cerritos, Calif., the legendary comedian is as candid, clever and comfortable as ever on stage.
What’s striking about this show is that Cosby remains true to himself, doing comedy his way. As he sits in his folding chair, it’s like the audience is taking part in story time, eager to be regaled with one interesting tale after another. Cosby’s act is relatable as he pokes fun at himself, and even his wife and kids. Some of the more memorable bits are his illustration of the difference between a girlfriend and a wife, weddings, the code name for his home’s security system and spoiled children, among others.
By far, the chocolate chip cookies segment takes the cake for the most hilarious, expertly crafted joke, as the Cos paints the picture of him and his wife as fencers lunging and stabbing while proving their points.
Far From Finished may be Cosby’s first stand-up special in 30 years, but he has carved out a niche with his distinct brand of comedy. The 76-year-old continues to prove that he can get laughs without profanity and vulgarity.
Highlights from the bonus material include a conversation between Cosby and comedian Robert Townsend, in which the younger funnyman gets inside of his hero’s mind, and a featurette in which Cos the music aficionado directs musicians in creating the theme song for the special.
